how you're going to build your mech and team in Battletech). The thing that's probably closest is Triangle Strategy since it similarly emphasizes solving the combat puzzle with the pieces it gives you, rather than the game asking you to create the solutions yourself (ex. I enjoyed Into the Breach, but imo it's more a puzzle game than a lot of others in the genre. The same way a lot of open world games seem underwhelming after playing BotW and you’re constantly noticing the invisible walls everywhere, and stuff like that. It’s disappointing going back to something where it’s just like “ok, this is my melee unit, this is my ranger unit, this one is anti-infantry” etc. There’s multiple units in Into the Breach that felt completely useless at first, but then you start messing around with them and discover how they fit into their team. Into the Breach has so many unique units and powers, and so much going on like the emergence holes, multiple considerations regarding where enemies are on the map at the the end of your turn (making sure no building are going to be hit, maximizing the damage enemies are doing to each other, etc). I love that game but it was basically what I expected out of a modern reimagining of the original. I don’t recall Xcom doing anything particularly innovative. I’m saying Into the Breach felt like the devs really re-thought the mechanics of turn-based tactics in a way that reminds me of what BotW did for open-world.
